Both — depending on what you place inside. For some, HeimatErde is mourning jewellery that holds the ashes or grave soil of a person or animal who has passed. For others, it’s a memorial keepsake of a special place, a journey or their own homeland. The piece itself prescribes nothing — you give it its meaning.

The pendant is made of two half-spheres. First fill the southern hemisphere, for example with earth from your homeland or a small amount of ash. Then slide the northern hemisphere over the pin so that its dowel fits into the notch of the southern hemisphere. To close it, guide the ring back through the hole. Yes. Using a sharp knife or a fine blade, the globe can be reopened by gently pressing it apart at the African continent. You can then swap the contents and put the pendant back together.

We recommend taking it off beforehand. The globe is not waterproof, the contents can get wet, and silver can react with salt water and oxidise. Lotions, perfumes and various types of water can also affect the metals. To keep your HeimatErde beautiful for a long time, please remove it before contact with water or chemicals.

The price difference comes from the material value and the elaborate craftsmanship. The silver versions start at €230, while the solid gold versions are considerably higher, because real gold in this quantity and finish carries a corresponding material value. Every HeimatErde is carefully crafted — the gold pieces are high-quality, durable heirlooms that can be passed down through generations.

Yes. We use only recycled gold and silver. We source all of our metal from an established German supplier with an open, transparent supply chain. Recycled metal is traceable.
